We want to welcome you to our new website for our parishes: St. Augustine’s and St. Matthew’s. I have heard it said that the website is the “new front door to our parishes”. We hope that you will find this tool helpful in keeping you connected, informed and of course welcome about the mission of Jesus that we are living in both faith communities. In the beautiful community of Grand Bay-Westfield, we have two Roman Catholic Churches: St. Augustine’s and St. Matthew’s. These parishes take in a vast territory from Wirral to Westside, Saint John. We are two faith communities that work exceptionally well together to address the pastoral needs of our area but as well, we are able to maintain our individual identity.
Together or apart, we are Catholic Christian Community. We believe that everyone is on a spiritual journey and what matters is not where a person is on that journey, but that they are on the journey itself. Therefore we see to welcome all peoples regardless of the stage of their spiritual life, their blessings and gifts but as well as their struggles or their failures. We simply invite you to walk with us.
Last week a lawyer asked Jesus, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” (Luke 10) Jesus said to him, “what is written in the Law?” The Lawyer responds with the right answer: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind; and your neighbour as yourself.” It dawned on me, what a great mission statement for our communities: “Love God, Love Neighbour” and perhaps add and “Make Disciples”
For that is what we are called through our Baptism to do. As communities we seek to help people worship God, connect with others, grow in faith, give with joy, and share the gospel, so that all may come to know Jesus.
We offer two parishes where you will be accepted-no exceptions! As Christians, we are ALL members of God’s family thus  ALL stories are sacred. Our communities offer you two sacred spaces where you will be loved and supported in your spiritual journey and where you will experience dynamic and uplifting liturgies.
This website will connect you to the many opportunities to come and be part of the mission of the greater Church through the many ministries that are offered in both communities. Our website will ensure that you are kept ‘connected’ and ‘up-to-date’ with the latest announcements regarding all facets of our churches: from Bulletins, Reflections, Religious Education news, Mass times, cancellations and so on. As well, this website will continue to change and grow so we encourage you to check in regularly so that you will be kept in the know.
We hope and pray you enjoy our website and welcome your feedback and we ask you to share it with others!  Welcome to the mission and ministry of St. Augustine’s and St. Matthew’s Parishes!!!
